Prologue No Prologue
My current manuscript, WORL, originally had a prologue. I cut it out, thinking that I could work the info into the story as I go, but I'm not sure I want to do that.
What are other's thoughts on the use of prologues?
The musings of a muddled mind

I don't love them. I hear that editors and agents don't love them either.
Still, many authors use them. Sometimes backstory can be told effectively with them.
I try not to use them, though, so that I err on the side of caution.
And that was me balancing carefully on the fence...
I used one in my mss Finally Home that Whiskey Creek Press is going to publish, but I'm pretty iffy on them too. I think I'll try to work the back story in as I go, but as I write the first few pages I'm just not sure how much of the back story I need to tell right away. I don't want readers to go "huh? what is she talking about? What happened?"
pgvlnojw sheesh
I've been going through this same question in my mind recently. My WIP is actually turning out to be a YA historical romance and, instead of a prologue, I'm thinking about having a "historical note" to explain the history behind the story, which is vital to the full understanding of the conflict. That is, if I can write it more interestingly than the historical note in the last YA I read... boy, was that dry!
